As part of the new framework, defense officials on both sides committed to extend institutional participation and improve strategic cooperation.
The proposed comprehensive strategic relationship would prioritize defending both nations’ national interests while ensuring that collaboration yields reciprocal benefits, as reported by the Ethiopian News Agency.
Regional security was also a prominent topic of discussion, with Ethiopia and the United States pledging to step up their efforts to promote peace, security, and stability in the Horn of Africa and beyond.
The deal comes as security issues continue to dictate political and military objectives in the Horn of Africa, where instability, violent conflicts, and cross-border security concerns have fueled calls for more regional collaboration.
Major General Teshome and Ellis underscored their commitment to moving rapidly from discussion to implementation, and both officials expressed support for developing the agreed-upon framework into a stronger, more forward-thinking defense relationship.
