U.S. firm expands oil and gas projects across Libya
In addition to its new focus on green energy, KBR continues to manage major engineering projects across Libya’s oil, gas, and refining infrastructure.
Earlier this year in March, the corporation secured a contract to provide project management and technical support for the South Refinery Project in Ubari on behalf of Zallaf.

Libya Observer also pointed out that KBR is reassessing the front-end engineering design for the development of the J6 field (crude oil development project) situated north of Jalu, which is operated by Waha Oil Company.
Libya’s oil and gas sector expands
Libya’s oil and gas sector has experienced remarkable success. This year, Austria discovered a 45-million-barrel oil reserve in Libya.

In addition, Business Insider Africa reported that Libya’s monthly crude oil production exceeded 43 million barrels in August 2026, while state energy revenues reached more than $2 billion.
It was also reported in June that production hit a 12-year high as output reached 1.49 million barrels a day. Despite these remarkable achievements as the African nation with the largest proven oil reserves, the West African nation of Nigeria still remains Africa’s largest oil-producing country.
